MAGIC, WONDER AND TRANSFORMATION
Romain Rios is a director and visual storyteller working between live performance, cinema and conceptual worlds.
Originally trained as an urban dancer, he developed an early sensitivity to the body, rhythm and presence — which naturally evolved into choreography, stage direction and narrative design.
Driven by a deep curiosity and a hands-on approach, Romain built his practice through experience: writing stories, learning from technical crews on tour, and developing skills in sound, light and set design. This multidisciplinary journey led him to create his own language, where cinema inhabits the stage and live performance becomes a shared ritual.
His work explores beauty, magic and contrast as tools for transformation — addressing themes such as social injustice, climate awareness and the need for collective perspective. From intimate projects to large-scale ceremonies, his creations seek to suspend time, provoke reflection and offer moments of elevation.
Today, Romain writes and directs for both stage and screen. He is also regularly invited to conceive and direct narrative ceremonies, festivals openings and large-scale live events, as well as to act as a creative consultant on visual and conceptual projects.
A long-time collaborator of Series Mania, he has directed and conceived several opening ceremonies as Artistic Director. He is the founder and director of MAM-DC, and was named Cultural Ambassador of his hometown, Angoulême (UNESCO Creative City).
